Epithalon and Telomere Biology

Epithalon (also spelled Epitalon or Epithalone) is a synthetic tetrapeptide (Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly) that has been investigated in preclinical research for its effects on telomerase activity and telomere maintenance. Telomeres — the protective DNA-protein complexes at chromosome ends — shorten with each cell division.

Telomerase Activation Research

In vitro studies have explored epithalon's effects on telomerase reverse transcriptase (TERT) expression and telomerase activity in human cell cultures. Research has investigated whether epithalon influences the rate of telomere shortening in replicating cell populations and the replicative capacity of cultured fibroblasts and other cell types.

Pineal Gland Research

Epithalon was originally developed from research on pineal gland peptide extracts (epithalamin). Preclinical studies have investigated its effects on melatonin synthesis and circadian rhythm regulation.
